Why Cleanup Can Delay Nighttime Road Reopenings
A collision at a highway intersection can leave damaged vehicles positioned across travel lanes or turning areas. At night, reduced visibility may also require more space around the roadway while crews assist those involved.
Medical evaluations, towing work, and debris removal can temporarily prevent traffic from moving through safely. Drivers approaching from connecting roads may need to slow down, stop, or use another route.
Vehicle placement, road width, lighting, and cleanup needs can influence how long restrictions remain. Even after lanes reopen, traffic may take time to return to normal as delayed motorists begin moving through the intersection.
