Trenton, NJ (August 30, 2026) – Two children died early on Wednesday morning, August 26, after a fire tore through a two-story home near 355 Hewitt Street in Trenton. The blaze broke out shortly after 4 a.m., with reports that people were trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and immediately began rescue and suppression efforts. One child was removed from the home in cardiac arrest and taken to a hospital, while a second occupant was later removed and transported. Authorities later confirmed that a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl died as a result of the fire.
The intense blaze prompted a third alarm, bringing additional firefighters and equipment to the scene. Several firefighters were also taken to a hospital, with at least one reported to have non-life-threatening injuries. The New Jersey Red Cross assisted residents affected by the fire.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control later Wednesday morning and remained at the property to extinguish hot spots. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities will release additional details as they are confirmed.
