Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes most frequently happen?
They tend to cluster on high-speed highways and major interchanges, where traffic moves fast, and merging or sudden stops raise the chance of a serious collision.
What makes a crash more likely to turn deadly?
High speed, nighttime or low-visibility conditions, and limited reaction time all raise the odds that a crash will result in a death rather than an injury.
Why does speed affect whether someone survives a crash?
Higher speeds increase the force of impact, giving vehicle safety systems less ability to protect occupants and reducing the time drivers have to avoid a collision altogether.
Why does wearing a seat belt matter so much?
A seat belt keeps an occupant from being thrown against the interior of the vehicle or ejected during a crash, which are common causes of fatal injury.
