Houston, TX (January 14, 2026) – A deadly crash claimed the life of a man who was struck by two separate vehicles while attempting to cross the Southwest Freeway, according to Houston police.
The fatal incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. on January 12 in the 700 block of Southwest Fwy near Main St. Authorities say the man entered the freeway from the Main Street exit ramp and attempted to walk across the traffic lanes when he was first hit by a black Infiniti QX60.
The 36-year-old driver of the Infiniti immediately stopped, contacted emergency services, and stayed at the scene. Shortly after, the pedestrian was struck a second time by a black Mercedes C250. The 22-year-old driver of that vehicle also remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly after the second impact and pronounced the man deceased at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Houston Police noted that neither driver showed any signs of intoxication, and both were released following questioning. Investigators believe the man had entered the freeway from an area without parked vehicles or pedestrian access, highlighting the dangers of crossing major highways on foot.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the man who lost his life in this tragic event.
