What Is Reviewed After a Fatal Crash Involving a Bicyclist
Crashes involving bicycles often require a close review of roadway positioning and passing distance. When a driver attempts to overtake a bicyclist, investigators may examine lane width, lighting conditions, and the relative speed of both parties. Even a slight miscalculation can result in serious injury due to the lack of protection for cyclists.
Nighttime conditions can also reduce visibility for both drivers and riders. Street lighting, reflective gear, and vehicle headlights may all be considered when assessing how the crash occurred.
In cases where a driver leaves the scene, timelines and statements can become part of the review process. Evidence such as vehicle damage and roadway markings may help clarify how the collision unfolded
