Why Parking Lot Exits Can Create Collision Risks for Motorcycles
Roadways near parking lots and driveways can present added challenges for drivers and motorcyclists. Vehicles entering traffic from parking areas often have limited visibility, especially when other cars or roadside features block the view of approaching traffic.
Motorcycles can be more difficult to notice because of their smaller size. When drivers focus on gaps in traffic, they may misjudge the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle.
Traffic flow on major roads can also increase the risk of collisions at parking lot exits. Vehicles traveling at steady speeds may encounter drivers slowing down or turning as they leave parking areas.
Careful observation of oncoming traffic and clear sightlines can help reduce the risk of these types of roadway accidents.
