Baltimore, MD (April 1, 2026) – A three-car crash on the Baltimore Beltway’s Inner Loop left two people injured and caused significant traffic delays on Tuesday, March 31.
The accident occurred near the Interstate 70 interchange when one vehicle overturned during the collision. Maryland State Police confirmed that a driver and a passenger were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Shortly after the first crash, another three-car chain-reaction collision was reported nearby on the Beltway. No injuries were reported in that subsequent crash. Traffic backups extended for some time as crews worked to clear both scenes.
The incidents remain under review by authorities.
We are thinking of those injured and wish them a smooth recovery.
Why Chain-Reaction Crashes Can Happen on Busy Beltways
Chain-reaction crashes often occur on highways where traffic is heavy and vehicles are close together. A single collision can cause sudden braking, forcing other drivers to react quickly, sometimes resulting in multiple impacts.
When a vehicle overturns, it adds to the risk of additional collisions and can block lanes, creating traffic backups. Speed, following distance, and driver attention are key factors in preventing these crashes.
Emergency crews typically respond by managing traffic, attending to injured occupants, and clearing vehicles safely to restore normal flow. Staying alert and maintaining safe distances can help reduce the likelihood of similar incidents.
