Hurricane, UT (February 4, 2026) – An aviation accident in southern Utah left a pilot critically injured on Monday afternoon after a helicopter went down in a residential area near Leeds. The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the Silver Reef neighborhood, drawing a rapid response from local fire crews and emergency personnel.
Officials with Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue reported that the helicopter crashed near a home that has a designated helicopter landing area on the property, stopping roughly 50 feet from the residence. Following the impact, the pilot, identified only as an adult man, was pinned by the aircraft. Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision, ultimately freeing the pilot from the wreckage.
Emergency medical teams provided on-site care before transporting the pilot to St. George Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. A second individual, a woman who was also aboard the helicopter, sustained a variety of injuries but declined medical transport at the scene, stating she would seek treatment independently.
The crash prompted a temporary closure of the immediate area as authorities secured the site and began documenting evidence. The cause of the helicopter accident remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those affected as recovery efforts continue.
