Frequently Asked Questions
How do left-turning vehicles cause motorcycle collisions?
A driver turning left across oncoming traffic may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not see it, because its narrow profile is easier to miss than a car. This creates a crossing path that can end in a direct collision if the motorcyclist has no time to brake or swerve.
What can drivers do to watch for motorcycles at intersections?
Checking twice before turning, scanning for smaller vehicles, and waiting for a clear gap rather than guessing a motorcycle's speed can help prevent these crashes. Intersections and turning movements are a common setting for motorcycle collisions because paths usually cross there.
What should a rider do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
Get to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and stay still until emergency responders check for injuries, since some injuries (like internal trauma) aren't obvious right away. Even if a rider feels fine, a medical evaluation is worth getting, and documenting the scene can matter later.
