Indianapolis, IN (January 12, 2026) – A 35-year-old man was struck and injured in a hit-and-run incident near the intersection of E 38th St and N Emerson Ave on January 11. Emergency personnel responded quickly to assist the victim, who was later transported to Eskenazi Hospital under a trauma alert.
According to dispatch reports, emergency units were first alerted around 4:40 p.m. to a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. Witnesses reported erratic behavior by the man prior to the crash, and medics later confirmed that he appeared to be under the influence at the time of the incident. Upon their arrival, the victim was described as combative and had to be sedated for his safety and the safety of responders.
Despite the serious nature of the call, medics noted only minor visible injuries, including road rash on the victim’s knuckles. He showed no signs of head trauma, broken bones, or internal deformities during the initial assessment. Medical staff established IV lines, monitored his vital signs, and initiated transport with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 6 following sedation, down from 12 upon their arrival.
The vehicle that struck the man fled the scene and has not yet been identified. The incident occurred within the Devington neighborhood, part of Council District 9, represented by Councilor Keith Graves.
Authorities are continuing to investigate and urge anyone with information about the driver or vehicle involved to come forward.
We hope the injured man receives the care he needs and recovers fully from this incident.
