Perris, CA (June 17, 2026) – Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left at least one person injured on Tuesday evening, June 16, on State Route 74 in Perris.

According to California Highway Patrol incident logs, the collision occurred at approximately 8:16 p.m. on eastbound SR-74 near Leon Road. Initial reports indicated a two-vehicle crash involving a white Ford Edge and another unidentified vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and found damaged vehicles blocking lanes of traffic. Incident updates noted that smoke was seen coming from one of the vehicles following the collision. Authorities later identified a gray Chevrolet Cruze with significant front-end damage and deployed airbags that was believed to be connected to the hit-and-run investigation.

Investigators reported that the suspected driver was no longer with the vehicle and was believed to have fled on foot in the area near SR-74 and Parasol. Tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles, and traffic lanes were eventually reopened. Information regarding the number and extent of injuries was not immediately released.

The investigation remains ongoing, and we hope those injured make a full recovery.

What Happens During a Hit-and-Run Investigation Following an Injury Crash?

When a driver leaves the scene of an injury collision, investigators must work to identify both the vehicle and the person responsible. Officers usually begin by documenting damage, collecting witness statements, and reviewing physical evidence left behind at the crash scene.

Abandoned vehicles can provide important investigative leads. Registration records, vehicle identification numbers, and evidence found inside a vehicle may help authorities determine who was operating it at the time of the crash. Investigators may also search nearby areas for individuals who left the scene on foot.

Injury crashes frequently involve a detailed review of roadway evidence, vehicle positions, and emergency response records. As information is gathered and analyzed, investigators can develop a clearer understanding of how the collision occurred and who may have been involved.
