Costa Mesa, CA (August 25, 2026) – At least one person was injured on Monday morning, August 24, in a multi-vehicle collision on northbound SR-55 near the I-405 interchange in Costa Mesa. It happened around 7:16 a.m.
One of the vehicles caught fire following the wreck, and a person was reported bleeding from the forehead, according to initial reports.
Fire crews responded to extinguish the vehicle fire and treat the injured person. The right lanes were blocked while crews worked, and a tow truck was requested to clear the roadway.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. We hope for a full recovery for the injured person.

A vehicle that brakes suddenly to navigate the interchange can catch a following driver off guard, especially during the morning commute.
Facial injuries, including cuts to the forehead, are common when a frontal strike causes an occupant’s head to make contact with a steering wheel, dashboard, or window despite airbag deployment. These injuries can look more severe than they are due to how much the facial areas tend to bleed, though any head injury still warrants a full medical evaluation.
