Why Intersections Are Usually Closed After Multi-Vehicle Collisions
Multi-vehicle collisions at intersections can require extended roadway closures while damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is made safe for traffic. Depending on the number of vehicles involved, cleanup may also include removing debris, damaged parts, and spilled fluids.
Investigators often review vehicle positions, traffic control devices, roadway markings, and witness statements to determine how the collision unfolded. Photographs and physical evidence can help establish the sequence of events, especially when more than one vehicle is involved. Once the roadway has been cleared and safety concerns have been addressed, traffic is typically allowed to resume.
