San Jose, CA (August 17, 2026) – A two-vehicle wreck was reported on August 16 on northbound State Route 87 just south of Curtner Avenue. The vehicles involved were a white BMW and a black SUV, according to the initial California Highway Patrol report.

The BMW and SUV were blocking multiple northbound lanes. The initial report stated that all occupants were out of the vehicles and on the right side of the highway. Emergency units were called, and an ambulance was requested while the vehicles remained in the travel lanes.

The report also stated that the BMW had been traveling at more than 90 mph before the collision. A tow was requested for a black SUV, while lanes two and three were closed during the cleanup. Traffic was temporarily stopped in all northbound lanes.

Additional details about the people involved had not been released at the time of publication. The circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under review as more information becomes available.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected as they recover.

What Is Typically Reviewed After a Two-Vehicle Highway Accident?

A serious roadway accident can leave several types of evidence that help establish what happened. Vehicle damage may show the direction and severity of a collision, while photographs can document road conditions, lane positions, and visible damage. Witness accounts may provide information about traffic movement, vehicle speeds, and what happened immediately beforehand.

Records from nearby businesses, traffic cameras, or other surveillance systems may also preserve useful information when available. Vehicle data can sometimes provide additional details about speed, braking, or steering before a wreck. Weather and lighting conditions may also be considered when examining a highway accident. Medical records can help document the nature and extent of any injuries reported after a collision. Together, these sources can provide a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding a roadway accident.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
