Why Are Road Closures Common After Injury Collisions?
Road closures allow emergency personnel to provide medical care, remove damaged vehicles, and clear debris without exposing drivers to additional hazards. Closing part of the roadway also helps preserve evidence that may be reviewed to determine how the collision occurred.
During this time, traffic may be redirected through nearby streets to keep vehicles moving as safely as possible. Once the roadway has been cleared and conditions are considered safe, lanes are typically reopened in stages. The length of a closure depends on the severity of the damage, the number of vehicles involved, and the amount of cleanup required.
