San Jose, CA (September 3, 2026) – One person was hospitalized after a crash involving a silver Ford Mustang and a motorcycle on Tuesday, September 1, on northbound U.S. 101 near Hellyer Avenue in San Jose, Santa Clara County.

The crash was reported around 8:45 a.m. and blocked two northbound lanes. California Highway Patrol records indicated that emergency crews responded to the scene, and San Jose Fire Department personnel reported that the injured person would be transported to Regional Medical Center by Medic 44.

Traffic was reported stopped in the area while responders worked at the scene. The lanes were later reopened, with the roadway reported open by approximately 9:12 a.m. Additional details about the circumstances of the crash and the extent of the injuries were not immediately available.

What Should Drivers Know About Motorcycle Blind Spots?

Motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles and can be harder to see in traffic, particularly when they are traveling beside or behind larger vehicles. A motorcycle can remain in a vehicle’s blind spot for several seconds before moving into view. Drivers should check their mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing lanes or moving across multiple lanes.

Following distance is also important when motorcycles are nearby. Leaving enough space gives drivers more time to recognize a motorcycle’s movement and respond if traffic changes suddenly. Motorists should avoid tailgating and remain attentive when approaching vehicles that may slow, merge, or change lanes.

Motorcyclists can improve their visibility by using headlights when appropriate and positioning themselves where they can be seen by surrounding traffic. Riders should also anticipate that other drivers may not notice them immediately and maintain enough space to react to unexpected movements. Staying focused and avoiding distractions is important for everyone sharing the roadway.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
