Jackson, MO (January 2, 2026) – A fatal pedestrian crash took place on Thursday night on westbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 18 in Jackson County, claiming the life of a 17-year-old boy from Oak Grove.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 8:46 p.m. on January 1, when a 2024 Ford Bronco, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Independence, struck the teenager in the roadway. Emergency crews responded quickly, but the young pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by Trooper A.K. Booker at 8:41 p.m.
The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was not injured. Her vehicle sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Elite Towing. Officials confirmed that the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
This crash is officially recorded as Troop A’s first fatal crash and fatality of 2026. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the MSHP Major Crash Investigation Unit, Blue Springs Police Department, and Independence Police Department.
