Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered such a serious risk on highways?
Even a few seconds without full attention at highway speed covers a long distance, cutting down the time a driver has to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead.
How do conditions like rain or fog affect a multi-vehicle crash like this one?
Wet or low-visibility conditions reduce stopping distance and sightlines, which can turn a single slow-down into a chain-reaction crash involving several vehicles.
What should I do if I'm involved in a multi-vehicle highway crash?
Move to a safe area if possible, call 911, turn on hazard lights, and wait for law enforcement to document the scene before discussing fault with other drivers.
Where do multi-vehicle crashes like this usually happen?
They're commonly reported on interstates and other high-speed roads, where traffic volume and speed differences between vehicles raise the chance of a chain-reaction collision.
