Why Vehicle Rollovers Lead to Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes can cause severe harm because occupants may be thrown around inside the vehicle or ejected if seat belts are not used properly. SUVs and Jeeps have a higher center of gravity than many passenger cars, which can increase the chance of tipping during sudden turns or high-speed maneuvers.
After a rollover, investigators examine tire marks, roadway conditions, and vehicle movement to determine how the vehicle overturned. Safety systems such as airbags and seat belts may also be reviewed. Medical evaluations can help show the extent of harm caused during the wreck. Lane closures are common after rollover collisions because crews must clear debris and inspect the roadway before traffic can safely continue.
