Frequently Asked Questions
Does a car's speed change a pedestrian's odds of survival?
Yes. Lower speeds give drivers more time to stop and reduce the force of impact, which generally means less severe injuries for anyone struck.
Where do pedestrian crashes usually happen?
Many occur in parking lots, crosswalks and intersections, places where vehicles and people on foot cross paths at close range and visibility can be limited.
Are pedestrians more likely to be hit after dark?
Reduced lighting and lower visibility do raise the risk in evening and nighttime hours, though crashes also happen in daylight, including in parking areas like this one.
What should someone do after being hit by a car?
Anyone involved should seek medical evaluation right away, even if injuries seem minor, and make sure the incident is documented by responding police or EMS.
