KEARNY MESA, San Diego County, Calif., Nov. 6, 2026 — A pickup truck pulling a trailer collided with a van on the connector from southbound State Route 163 to westbound State Route 52 in Kearny Mesa late Wednesday night, November 4, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least one person was hurt, and airbags deployed in at least one vehicle.
The crash was reported shortly before 10:46 p.m. at the SB-163-to-WB-52 transition. The pickup reportedly struck a center barrier wall during the collision. The call was initially logged as a crash with unknown injuries before CHP upgraded it to a crash with injuries and medics en route.
The pickup's trailer reportedly overturned and partially blocked the transition to westbound SR-52, creating an additional hazard for passing traffic. CHP units held all southbound lanes on SR-163 just north of the SR-52 split for a time before narrowing the closure to the slow lane. Tow trucks were called to the scene, one for the trailer and a second for the pickup, which was described as having major front-end damage.
The extent of the reported injury has not been released. CHP has not said whether speed, alcohol, or another factor contributed to the crash, and the cause remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.
