Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes like this tend to happen? Intersections where a vehicle is turning across oncoming traffic are a common setting for serious or fatal crashes, especially when one vehicle is moving at a high rate of speed.
What factors make a crash more likely to be deadly? Speed, the size and type of vehicles involved, and whether riders or occupants are ejected all affect how severe a crash turns out to be.
How much does speed affect the chances of surviving a crash? Higher speeds increase the force of an impact and reduce the time a driver has to react, which raises the likelihood of serious injury or death.
Why does seat belt use matter so much in crashes like this? Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown from their seats or ejected during a collision, which lowers the risk of fatal injury for anyone riding in an enclosed vehicle.
