Frequently Asked Questions
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
Outcomes usually depend on speed at impact, the angle of the collision, and whether occupants were wearing seat belts. Crashes involving a left turn across oncoming traffic, like this one, can produce severe side-impact forces.
How does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the risk of serious or fatal injury even in a single collision.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants positioned inside the vehicle and spread crash forces across stronger parts of the body, lowering the chance of being thrown against the interior or ejected.
What should families do after a fatal crash?
Families typically can request a copy of the official crash report from the investigating agency and may want to ask about the timeline for any ongoing investigation.
