Why Pole Collisions Involving Dirt Bikes Can Cause Severe Injuries
Crashes involving dirt bikes and fixed objects such as utility poles can result in severe injuries because the impact force is concentrated in a small area. Riders often have less physical protection than occupants of passenger vehicles.
Single-vehicle crashes are commonly reviewed for factors such as speed, roadway conditions, visibility, and vehicle control before impact. Investigators may also examine whether the rider attempted evasive action before leaving the roadway.
Head injuries are among the most serious outcomes in dirt bike and motorcycle crashes. Investigators typically document roadway evidence, impact location, and vehicle damage to better understand how the collision occurred.
