La Jolla, CA (January 30, 2026) – A driver suffered severe injuries early Thursday morning after their vehicle collided with the back of a semi-truck on North Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. in the 10000 block of North Torrey Pines Rd. Officials say a four-door Honda rear-ended a tractor-trailer and became wedged beneath the trailer’s undercarriage. The violent impact left the vehicle heavily damaged and the driver trapped inside.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived at the scene and worked to extricate the driver from the wreckage. The individual, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries described as potentially life-threatening.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert due to significant traffic disruption in the area. Multiple lanes were closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene and tow services removed the crushed vehicle.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, distraction, or other contributing factors played a role.
