What Makes Pedestrian Collisions So Dangerous?
Pedestrian crashes are among the most severe types of traffic incidents because individuals have no protection against the force of a moving vehicle. Even at lower speeds, the impact can cause critical injuries, especially to the head and torso.
In areas like Lancaster, wide roadways and higher speed limits can increase the risk and severity of these collisions. Limited lighting at certain intersections or during nighttime hours can also reduce visibility, making it harder for drivers to see pedestrians in time to react.
Emergency response is often immediate in these situations, but outcomes can depend heavily on the speed of impact and the injuries sustained. Drivers are urged to stay alert and cautious, especially near intersections, while pedestrians should use designated crossings and remain visible whenever possible.
