What Makes Pedestrian Crashes at Major Intersections in Lancaster So Dangerous?
Lancaster sits in the Antelope Valley, where wide arterial roads like Sierra Hwy carry fast-moving traffic through a mix of commercial and residential areas. Intersections along these corridors can be difficult for pedestrians to cross safely, particularly when vehicle speeds are high and crosswalk infrastructure is limited. The combination of long stretches between signals and large turning radii can make it harder for drivers to spot people on foot.
Hit-and-run pedestrian crashes add another layer of harm beyond the physical injury. When a driver leaves the scene, the victim may go without immediate help, and bystanders are left to call for aid and attempt to describe the vehicle. In cases like this, witness accounts and nearby surveillance footage often become the most immediate tools for identifying who was involved.
