Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes most frequently happen?
Many fatal crashes occur at intersections or where a vehicle enters a roadway from a side street or driveway, especially on rural highways with higher speed limits.
What factors make a crash more likely to be deadly?
Higher travel speeds, the angle of impact and whether an occupant is restrained all affect how severe a crash turns out to be.
How does speed affect whether someone survives a crash?
Even modest increases in speed raise the force of an impact substantially, which lowers the chances of walking away without serious injury.
Why does wearing a seat belt matter so much?
A seat belt keeps an occupant from being thrown inside or out of the vehicle during a collision, which cuts the risk of fatal injury.
