Las Vegas, NV (July 17, 2026) – A 63-year-old man died early on Thursday morning, July 16, after being struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run crash at West Flamingo Road and South El Capitan Way in Las Vegas. The collision was reported at approximately 1:21 a.m.

A 2018 BMW X4 driven by 35-year-old Tomas Espino was traveling westbound on West Flamingo when the pedestrian, who was crawling northbound in a marked crosswalk against the pedestrian signal, entered the vehicle’s path. The BMW’s front left struck the man, redirecting him westbound into the intersection. Espino did not remain at the scene.

Moments later, a dark-colored SUV approached and ran over the man as he lay in the roadway. That driver also fled the scene heading westbound. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Espino and the BMW were later located. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on hit-and-run-related charges. The driver of the SUV remains unidentified. Anyone with information is asked to contact LVMPD or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555. The accident remains under active investigation.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the man who lost his life.

What Happens When Two Drivers Flee After a Fatal Pedestrian Crash?

When multiple drivers leave the scene of a crash that results in a fatality, investigators must pursue each vehicle and driver as a separate thread of the investigation. Physical evidence, surveillance footage, and witness accounts are gathered quickly to identify both vehicles before they can be concealed or repaired. In cases where one driver is located while another remains unknown, the investigation continues on both tracks simultaneously until all parties are identified.

A pedestrian in a crosswalk who is struck and left in the roadway faces an immediate secondary risk from additional traffic. Other drivers approaching the intersection may not see a person lying on the ground, particularly at night when visibility is limited, and a prone figure is difficult to distinguish from road debris. This pattern, where a second vehicle strikes someone already down from a first impact, is a documented hazard in nighttime urban pedestrian crashes.

Hit-and-run charges in Nevada can range in severity depending on the outcome of the crash and the circumstances of the departure. When a pedestrian is killed, and a driver flees, the charges filed typically reflect both the fatal outcome and the decision to leave. Investigators work to document the full sequence of events for both drivers, since each person’s legal exposure is evaluated based on their individual actions before and after the collision.
