Why Pedestrian Crashes at Intersections Can Be Severe
Pedestrian crashes at intersections often occur when drivers and pedestrians are moving at the same time through crossing points. Even when drivers are traveling at normal speeds, a sudden step into traffic can lead to serious or life-threatening injuries.
SUVs and larger vehicles can cause more severe impact injuries due to their height and force of contact. Investigators typically review traffic patterns, visibility conditions, and surveillance footage to understand how the pedestrian entered the roadway. Road lighting, crossing behavior, and driver reaction time are also commonly examined in these cases.
