Frequently Asked Questions
What is an underride crash?
An underride crash happens when a smaller vehicle slides partly or fully beneath a truck's trailer during a collision, usually because the trailer sits higher off the ground than a car's bumper and crumple zones.
What are common causes of large-truck accidents?
Collisions involving semi-trucks can stem from limited visibility, wide turning radiuses, sudden lane changes, following distance issues, or a car pulling into traffic without enough room to clear the truck's path.
How can drivers share the road with trucks safely?
Giving trucks extra space, avoiding their blind spots, and signaling early before merging or pulling out of a lot can reduce the chance of a crash involving a vehicle that size.
Does driver fatigue contribute to truck crashes?
Fatigue can slow reaction times for any driver, truck or passenger vehicle, which is one reason investigators usually look at hours of driving and rest periods after a crash like this.
