Frequently Asked Questions
Are secondary crashes common after an initial wreck?
Yes. A first collision can block lanes or draw drivers' attention away from the road, which raises the chance that another vehicle strikes the scene before it is fully cleared.
What makes multi-vehicle crashes hard to investigate?
Investigators usually have to sort out the order in which vehicles struck each other, interview several drivers and passengers with differing accounts, and review any available video or data before assigning a sequence of events.
What causes multi-vehicle pile-ups?
Chain-reaction crashes commonly stem from sudden braking, a stopped or slowed vehicle in traffic, limited visibility, or a driver following too closely for conditions at a busy intersection.
