Risks Associated with Trench and Excavation Work
Construction sites with trenches and deep excavations pose unique safety challenges. Workers operating near open pits or trenches can face serious risks if heavy machinery is involved or the ground is unstable.
Excavators and other construction equipment often rotate or swing during operation. When workers are positioned too close to moving equipment, they can be struck or pushed into excavation areas.
Deep trenches can also pose hazards due to their confined structure. Falls into these spaces may lead to serious injuries due to the depth, limited mobility, and difficulty of rescue operations.
Safety practices at excavation sites often include barriers, clear communication between equipment operators and workers, and designated safe zones. These measures help reduce the chance of falls or contact with moving machinery in active construction areas.
