How Apartment Fires Can Spread Quickly Between Units
Fires in apartment buildings can spread rapidly due to shared walls, ceilings, and ventilation systems. When a fire starts in one unit, flames and smoke can spread to nearby units within minutes. This can affect several families before crews arrive.
Smoke inhalation is one of the most common injuries in residential fires. Even when flames are contained, lingering smoke and heat can cause breathing problems. Quick evacuation and early emergency response can help reduce harm.
Working smoke alarms and clear escape plans are key safety measures in multi-unit housing. Keeping hallways clear and knowing multiple exit routes can also help residents leave safely if a fire breaks out.
