Becker County, MN (June 17, 2026) – A Lake Park woman sustained life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning following a collision involving an SUV and a tractor truck on Highway 10 in Becker County.

According to incident information released by authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 8:31 a.m. on westbound Highway 10 near mile marker 30 in Lake Park Township.

Investigators reported that a 2021 International tractor was traveling westbound on Highway 10 and attempting to make a right turn when it was struck by a 2018 Honda CR-V that was also traveling westbound behind the truck. The vehicles collided near mile marker 30.

The Honda was driven by Joanna Lois Shipman, 29, of Lake Park. Authorities said she was wearing a seat belt and that the vehicle’s airbags deployed during the crash. Shipman sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sanford West for emergency medical treatment.

The driver of the International tractor, Trent David Bjerke, 22, of Lake Park, was not injured. He was also wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Officials reported that road conditions were dry and that alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

Emergency responders from Becker County, Lake Park Fire and Rescue, and Essentia Health assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. We hope Joanna Shipman makes a full and speedy recovery.

Why Rear-End and Turning Collisions Involving Large Trucks Are Severe?

Crashes involving passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks result in significant damage due to the substantial difference in vehicle size and weight. Even at moderate speeds, impacts involving tractor trucks can lead to serious injuries for occupants of smaller vehicles.

Investigators reviewing truck-related crashes typically examine vehicle movements, turn maneuvers, roadway conditions, visibility, braking evidence, and witness statements. These factors help determine how the collision occurred and whether any contributing circumstances were involved.

Drivers approaching turning commercial vehicles are encouraged to allow additional stopping distance and remain alert to changes in speed or direction. Large trucks require more space to maneuver, particularly when making turns on highways and rural roadways.
