The crash remains under investigation. We hope Joanna Shipman makes a full and speedy recovery.
Why Rear-End and Turning Collisions Involving Large Trucks Are Severe?
Crashes involving passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks result in significant damage due to the substantial difference in vehicle size and weight. Even at moderate speeds, impacts involving tractor trucks can lead to serious injuries for occupants of smaller vehicles.
Investigators reviewing truck-related crashes typically examine vehicle movements, turn maneuvers, roadway conditions, visibility, braking evidence, and witness statements. These factors help determine how the collision occurred and whether any contributing circumstances were involved.
Drivers approaching turning commercial vehicles are encouraged to allow additional stopping distance and remain alert to changes in speed or direction. Large trucks require more space to maneuver, particularly when making turns on highways and rural roadways.
