Understanding Pedestrian Risks on Highways
Pedestrian accidents along highways can be especially dangerous due to higher vehicle speeds and limited safe crossing areas. Even brief exposure to fast-moving traffic increases the risk of serious or fatal injuries.
Visibility, lighting, and road design play important roles in these incidents. Intersections, side streets, and rural areas may lack proper signage or sidewalks, making pedestrians harder to see.
Drivers are encouraged to remain alert, reduce speed near crossings, and watch for people walking along or near roadways. Pedestrians should also use designated crossings and stay visible to minimize the risk of accidents.
