Frequently Asked Questions
Does impaired driving factor into fatal crashes?
Alcohol or drug impairment is a common factor in fatal crashes nationwide, though it must be confirmed through testing and investigation. No impairment has been reported in connection with this crash.
Where do fatal crashes most commonly happen?
Intersections are a frequent site of fatal crashes, particularly where one driver fails to yield the right of way or runs a stop sign or signal.
What makes a crash more likely to turn deadly?
Higher speeds, larger size differences between vehicles, and the angle of impact all affect how severe a crash becomes. T-bone and failure-to-yield crashes at intersections usually produce more serious injuries than rear-end collisions.
How does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Faster speeds mean more force at impact, which lowers the chance of surviving a crash and increases the severity of injuries even in vehicles with modern safety features.
