Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to avoid crashes at intersections like this one?
Coming to a complete stop where required, checking cross traffic carefully before turning, and never assuming an approaching driver will yield can help prevent intersection collisions, especially at crossings where one road lacks a signal or stop sign.
What injuries are common in intersection crashes involving a turning vehicle?
These crashes frequently cause head, neck, and chest injuries from the impact and from occupants being thrown against the interior of the vehicle, along with broken bones and soft tissue injuries, though severity varies widely by speed and angle of impact.
What usually causes crashes where one vehicle is turning left?
Misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming traffic, limited visibility, and distraction are common causes, and investigators typically review traffic controls, sightlines, and vehicle data to determine what happened.
Does speed affect how serious a turning crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which tends to raise both the number and severity of injuries.
