LOS ANGELES, Los Angeles County, Calif., Oct. 18, 2026 — A multi-vehicle crash shut down lanes early Saturday morning, October 17, on the connector from northbound State Route 110 to northbound Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP's traffic log shows reports of a collision on the transition road just after 12:24 a.m. Early calls described at least two vehicles involved, with one report of a sedan and an SUV blocking the slow lane of the transition road. Additional radio traffic referenced other vehicles blocking the right and left lanes.
A passing motorist told CHP that a medical response was needed, and the agency's classification was updated from a collision with unknown injuries to one requiring paramedics. Los Angeles Fire Department units responded to the scene.
Lanes were affected for several hours. CHP records show two of the three lanes were briefly reopened while a tow rotation was requested, and the roadway was reported clear by about 1:37 a.m.
The cause of the crash has not been released and remains under investigation. We wish those injured a speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed make a difference in how serious a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds mean more distance needed to stop and more force at the moment of impact, which raises the chance of serious injury even in a short collision.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Taking your eyes or attention off the road for even a few seconds means losing track of traffic changes ahead, like slowing vehicles or lane shifts, which is often enough time for a crash to develop.
Can weather or road conditions cause crashes like this one?
Wet pavement, poor lighting, or uneven road surfaces can reduce traction and reaction time, particularly on ramps and lane transitions where vehicles are merging or changing speed.
What should someone do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with other drivers. Even if injuries aren't obvious right away, it's worth getting checked out, since some injuries take time to show symptoms.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Los Angeles, CA
If you're involved in a crash on a freeway connector or busy interchange in Los Angeles, try to get your vehicle out of traffic lanes if it's safe to do so, and turn on hazard lights. Call 911 right away if anyone is hurt or if vehicles are blocking traffic. Stay as far from moving lanes as possible while waiting for help, since secondary crashes are a real risk on ramps and transition roads. Once you're safe, seek a medical evaluation even for minor aches, and keep records of any police reports or medical visits in case you need them later.
