Los Angeles, CA (February 20, 2026) – Two people were extricated from a wrecked vehicle following a two-car crash on February 19 in East Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The collision occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Normandie Ave, near the intersection with Santa Monica Blvd. Firefighters arrived quickly and located two individuals trapped inside one of the vehicles. Crews used specialized tools to safely remove them from the wreckage.
Officials confirmed that at least three people were involved in the incident. Despite the dramatic rescue, none of the individuals required hospitalization, according to LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
The intersection was temporarily impacted while emergency responders cleared the scene and conducted their investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those involved and wish them a smooth recovery.
Why Extrications Are Sometimes Needed Even Without Hospital Transport
Not all vehicle crashes that involve trapped individuals lead to hospitalizations. In some cases, passengers may be physically pinned inside the vehicle due to door damage, collapsed panels, or airbag deployment, even if they are not seriously hurt.
Firefighters are trained to assess the safest method to remove occupants without causing additional injury. This process, known as extrication, often involves tools like hydraulic cutters or spreaders and can take several minutes depending on the vehicle’s condition.
Urban intersections like Normandie Ave and Santa Monica Blvd are frequently congested and prone to mid-day crashes. Drivers are reminded to remain alert, especially in high-traffic corridors, to help prevent collisions that can trap or injure those inside.
