Why pedestrian crashes on highways are particularly dangerous:
Highways present serious risks for pedestrians due to high vehicle speeds and limited safe crossing areas. Even a single lapse in visibility or attention can result in life-threatening injuries.
Vehicles traveling at highway speeds require more time to stop, and drivers may have little time to react to someone on the road. Safety barriers, designated crossings, and awareness are key factors in preventing these tragedies. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable in areas not designed for foot traffic, making highway accidents often fatal.
