Madison, AL (January 31, 2026) – A woman lost her life in a residential fire early on January 30 in Madison, prompting an extended response from fire and rescue crews. The blaze was reported around 4:53 a.m. near Crescent Circle and Palmer Rd, where arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and visible flames. One apartment was completely destroyed, with smoke damage reported in adjacent units.
According to Madison Fire & Rescue, no injuries were sustained by responding personnel during the operation. Crews remained on site throughout the morning to monitor the area and extinguish any remaining hot spots. Palmer Rd has since reopened in both directions, but Crescent Circle remains closed to traffic.
Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill confirmed the fatality and stated that an autopsy would be conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Fire officials have not determined the cause of the blaze, and the investigation remains active.
