Atlantic, IA (January 31, 2026) – A 26-year-old man was injured in a car versus moped accident on January 30 along Highway 71, just south of Atlantic. The collision occurred around 10:22 p.m. near the 58.5-mile marker and prompted a response from multiple emergency agencies. Cass EMS transported the injured man, identified as Blaine Morse of Atlantic, to Cass Health for treatment.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Morse was traveling southbound on a moped when he was struck from behind by a 2018 Chevy Malibu. The Malibu was also headed southbound and driven by 26-year-old Detrich Engstrand of Clarinda. The circumstances that led to the crash remain under investigation.

The Atlantic Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Authorities have not released information on potential charges or citations. Additional updates may follow as the investigation continues.
