Blue Canyon, CA (July 22, 2026) – Several people were hurt after a major traffic collision involving a semi-truck and multiple other vehicles along westbound I-80 near the Drum Forebay Road off-ramp on Monday afternoon, July 20.
According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch information, the first reports came in around 1:51 p.m., indicating a semi-truck had gone off the roadway after striking several vehicles. Initial callers reported a four- to five-vehicle collision, but later updates indicated the semi was involved with as many as 10 vehicles.
Passing motorists reportedly assisted several injured people before emergency units arrived. Dispatch logs noted that at least two people suffered major injuries, while several others were reported with less severe injuries. The semi driver was initially unaccounted for as crews worked through the damaged vehicles.
All westbound lanes were blocked for several hours, resulting in a hard closure near Blue Canyon with traffic being diverted while crews cleared the roadway. Additional details, including the identities of those involved, had not been released.
The cause of the collision remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
