Oakland, CA (August 6, 2026) – A major two-vehicle crash left at least one person with serious injuries on August 6 along northbound I-880 just north of 16th Street in Oakland.
According to initial reports, the collision was first reported shortly before 2:50 a.m. A black SUV reportedly struck the right-side wall, while another vehicle was found stopped nearby. Dispatch logs later indicated the crash involved a semi-truck and an SUV, although those details had not been fully confirmed in the initial reports.
Emergency units arrived and found one person suffering from major head bleeding. At one point, witnesses reported that people were outside their vehicles in active traffic lanes, while another caller stated that a man and a woman ran away from one of the vehicles. The California Highway Patrol later upgraded the call to a major injury collision. The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
