Why Highway Pedestrian Crossings Can Be Especially Dangerous
Pedestrian crossings on busy highways can be hazardous due to higher vehicle speeds and limited safe crossing points. Drivers often have reduced reaction time when a pedestrian enters the roadway unexpectedly.
Visibility can also play a significant role, especially in areas without marked crosswalks or controlled intersections. Even in clear weather, fast-moving traffic can make it difficult to judge distance and timing.
After these types of crashes, investigators typically examine vehicle speed, sightlines, and roadway design. These factors can help determine how the collision occurred and why the outcome was severe.
