Columbus, OH (August 30, 2026) – A 19-year-old man died, and two others were injured on Friday night in a two-vehicle collision on Roberts Road in west Columbus. The crash occurred shortly before 11:10 p.m. on August 28 at the intersection of Roberts Road and Potts Place.

According to police, a Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Roberts Road and began turning south onto Potts Place. Meanwhile, a Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on Roberts Road when the two vehicles collided during the turn. Aaden Elswick, 19, was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

It was not immediately clear whether Elswick was operating the Honda Civic or the Dodge Durango or whether he was a passenger. Two additional people sustained injuries in the collision. Roberts Road was temporarily closed between Walcutt Road and Hilliard Rome Road as investigators worked at the scene before the roadway reopened.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Our condolences are with Aaden Elswick’s family and loved ones, and we hope those injured make a full recovery.

What Should Drivers Know About Turning Across Traffic?

Crossing an opposing traffic lane to make a turn can be dangerous, particularly when approaching vehicles are nearby. Motorists should carefully check for oncoming traffic and ensure there is sufficient distance and time to complete the maneuver safely.

Road conditions, limited visibility, darkness, weather, and the surrounding traffic can make it more difficult to see approaching vehicles. Drivers should remain especially cautious when making turns at busy or unfamiliar intersections.

Following speed limits and staying focused on the roadway can help reduce the risk of collisions. Avoiding distractions and remaining alert gives drivers a better opportunity to respond when traffic conditions change unexpectedly.
