What Should Drivers Know About Stop Signs at Intersections?
Stop signs require drivers to come to a complete stop before entering an intersection. After stopping, motorists should check for approaching vehicles and make sure the roadway is clear before proceeding.
Intersections can become especially dangerous when one driver fails to stop. Vehicles traveling through the other roadway may have little time to avoid a vehicle entering their path.
Drivers should remain alert for posted signs and adjust their speed as they approach intersections. Keeping distractions to a minimum can also help motorists recognize traffic hazards sooner.
