Clifton, TX (August 12, 2026) – One person died Tuesday morning after a house fire broke out in the 1200 block of Hackberry Street in Clifton.
Emergency dispatchers sent Clifton police officers and the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department to the residence around 2:30 a.m. First responders arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, with a possible occupant still trapped inside.
Officers attempted to enter through the back door but were forced back by heavy smoke and intense flames. While firefighters worked to control the blaze, officers evacuated residents from nearby homes. The Meridian and Valley Mills volunteer fire departments also provided mutual aid.
Firefighters extinguished the fire around 4:30 a.m. During a subsequent search of the residence, officials discovered the body of a deceased male inside. His next of kin have been notified, but his identity remains pending an autopsy. Authorities believe he was the sole occupant of the home.
All emergency units cleared the scene by approximately 10 a.m. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and will lead the investigation into the cause of the fire. The cause remains undetermined.
