Why Are Serious Pedestrian Collisions Complex to Investigate?
Pedestrian collisions can involve many factors that require careful review before a full timeline is established. Investigators usually examine where the person was walking, the direction of travel, lighting conditions, roadway features, and any available surveillance or witness accounts. Vehicle damage and physical evidence may also help explain how contact occurred.
Medical findings can provide additional information about the force and direction of the strike. In some cases, investigators also review whether other reported criminal activity happened before or after the collision, since those details may be separate from the roadway portion of the case. As additional evidence is collected, a clearer picture of the sequence of actions leading up to the collision may emerge.
